Yeah if I’m marrying, no way I want to take on someone else’s debt. Especially if I’ve maintained my finances to carry zero debt. There’s the part about taking on the debt and then, to your point, the lack of impulse control and planning. It’s a matter of principle - If they can’t resist the urge to overspend by leasing a new Range Rover, then what else can’t they resist?!I really think it comes down to the individual. I agree with your overall sentiment but a ton people have school debt because of how F’d up the college lending is. I don’t think 19 year olds should be able to borrow thousands of dollars with a few clicks. It’s a little different than going out and borrowing because you want fun stuff.
