I think this is completely missing what was going on with many voters when they mentioned “electability” and really representative of why it’s been difficult for Sanders to expand his coalition. It misses the fear that leads to risk averse behavior. This is part of the blind spot in his messaging, and it’s the reason why older black voters chose Biden. People who have a lot to lose, who have seen the world improve in their lifetimes, and who cannot afford further regression generally vote pragmatically. It’s lacking empathy to describe this behavior as privileged and ignorant.
