I agree vehemently with the essence of what you are saying. There is one issue though. The highest courts in any country never deal with decisions that can be clearly decided by the letter of the law. (Lower courts handle those quite fine). They are primarily tasked with making hard decision that are not explicitly or clearly implicitly stated in the laws. Therefore judges HAVE to use their own moral compass in those situations.Sadly there is no such thing as a unified moral theory and therefore everyone has to judge the moral implications individually. I think catholicly inspired morals serves just as decently as any other moral philosophy to do that.
