I was raised catholic, and though I am not catholic now I do still have a lot of catholic family and friends. In my personal experience the vast majority of american catholics disagree with the vast majority of the church's positons on these sort of social issues and would express an opinion similar to what you stated here. Agree with your general point but not all US Catholics oppose gay marriage, birth control or abortion. It might be true that the established Catholic Church dogma does, but not actual people who identity as Catholic.
