So now I make sure every time I do give to a charity I try to direct the money where I feel it makes the most sense for me and my values. I do realize many would prefer the 'blank check', still I suspect they like to get any check rather than no check at all. ;-) The big lesson here is that institutional loyalty is wasted effort. Most will sell out anyone for its gain. Use and think of them as service providers that are rented, used and discarded... like our friend the librarian should have done... but didn't... should have at least specified how the money was spent.
