I'm a straight white dude who's been at least tangentially involved in competitive TF2, every year, for about 7-8 years now, and i can attest that there are innumerable racist/homophobic circlejerks at the top level of TF2. You can look at places like teamfortress.tv or play in any high level pick up game to see how the competitive community is largely infested by people from both /pol/ and /b/. It's a shame, too, cause the game is so fucking good both casually and competitively. But the community is largely irredeemable.
