I've not seen the movie but the ending appears much the same in the comic - except in the epilogue, where under pressure to print something in the paper a sub-editor finds Rorschach's diary in the mail containing information that exposes the lie. I happens in the movie aswell but i dont think it makes a difference. This is explored a little in the tv series watchmen but it is discredited because they arent sure its authentic and even If it was authentic its just the mad ramblings of a homeless murdererous lunatic.
