His mother died right in the middle of our time together, which fucked him up pretty bad. I started to see an angry side to him which I should’ve found more disturbing, truthfully…but…I mean…his mother had just died, and I figured it was only a human reaction to that kind of pain. To be honest, I kinda thought I could save him…I know how stupid that sounds now, but he really had this puppy-like quality at times that made you just want to cuddle him. I got married to him right at the start of a big war in our country at the time, and we kinda felt like we had to live each day to the fullest given that we might not have much time together.
