The war, as it turned out, escalated very quickly, and within a year it had taken a pretty heavy toll on his mental health. It didn’t help that I got pregnant around the same time. He started really worrying me when some pretty ugly abandonment issues reared their head. He couldn’t bear the thought that something might happen to me and he’d lose me…whether because of the war, or complications from childbirth, or…I honestly don’t know, he got real moody around this time and I could just feel our relationship slipping away.
